Authors: Malagi, Vasantha; Glory, R Stephy; Abdul Majeed, Tameem; M, Srikruthi
Abstract: PROBLEMSTATEMENT:
“A study to assess the knowledge regarding health promoting first aid services among first year GNM
student”

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
• To assess the knowledge of first-year GNM students regarding health-promoting first aid services.
• To classify the knowledge levels of first-year GNM students on health-promoting first aid services
into Adequate, moderate, and inadequate categories.
METHODOLOGY:
A Cross Sectional research design was used to assess the level of knowledge regarding health- promoting
first aid services among first-year GNM students. Data was collected from 50 participants selected through
non-probability convenience sampling technique using a structured questionnaire consisting of two
sections.
RESULT:
The study was conducted among 50 first-year GNM students to assess their knowledge regarding health promoting first aid services. The findings revealed that the majority of the participants (56%) had
adequate knowledge, while 34% demonstrated moderate knowledge, and only 10% had inadequate
knowledge.
This show that while more than half of the participants had adequate knowledge, a significant portion still had only
moderate or inadequate understanding of first aid practices. These findings emphasize the need to enhance the current
first aid curriculum and provide more practical exposure. The mean knowledge score was 18, Median knowledge
score was 19, with a standard deviation of 5.03. The minimum score was 5, and the maximum score was 25,
indicating wide variation in student knowledge levels
This indicates that more than half of the students have a satisfactory understanding of first aid measures.
However, a considerable proportion of students still fall under moderate and adequate categories, suggesting
a need for enforcing first aid training and awareness during the early stages of nursing education.

Authors: Santhosh, Daras Esqulin; Shaji, Angel; Raj, Anaswara; N. K., Amal Krishna; Hilari, Alex
Abstract: The postnatal period is a critical phase for both the mother and the newborn,
during which appropriate care and bonding are essential for the well-being of
both. One important concept in modern maternal and newborn care is “rooming in,” which refers to the practice of keeping the newborn in the same room with
the mother 24 hours a day, instead of separating them into a nursery. This
practice supports early initiation and continuation of breastfeeding, strengthens
the maternal-infant bond, enhances the mother's confidence in newborn care,
and reduces hospital-acquired infections in newborns.
Rooming-in is strongly recommended by organizations such as the World Health
Organization (WHO) and United Nations International Children's Emergency
Fund (UNICEF) as part of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI).
Despite these recommendations, the implementation of rooming-in varies across
healthcare settings, and nursing students may have limited knowledge or
understanding about its benefits, leading to gaps in effective maternal-newborn
care.
Nursing students, as future healthcare providers, play a vital role in promoting
evidence-based practices such as rooming-in. Educating them at an early stage
ensures better clinical practice and advocacy for newborn care. Providing a
structured and easily understandable information booklet can serve as an
effective educational intervention to enhance their knowledge and positively
influence their attitudes toward rooming-in.
This study is therefore undertaken to assess the impact of an information booklet
on the knowledge level of nursing students regarding rooming-in. By comparing
pre-test and post-test knowledge scores and evaluating associations with socio demographic factors, the study aims to determine the effectiveness of the
booklet as a teaching-learning tool

Abstract: Domestic waste management is one of the most pressing challenges affecting public health
and environmental sustainability, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure and
awareness remain limited. Improper disposal practices such as open dumping and burning
of waste contribute to soil, water, and air pollution, while also increasing the risk of vector borne diseases. With the rapid growth of non-biodegradable waste, the importance of
assessing people’s knowledge and awareness becomes essential in formulating strategies to
promote effective waste segregation and safe disposal. This study was conducted to
evaluate the knowledge and awareness of domestic waste management among people in a
rural community of Bengaluru.

Abstract: Communication is one the key skill in nursing profession. Learning communication barriers in
nursing is important due to the importance of quality communication in safe, patient-focused
care. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 first year BSc nursing students at Smt. Nagarathanamma College of Nursing, Bangalore. This study was intended to assess the
knowledge of first year BSc nursing students regarding communication barriers in nursing. A
non-probability convenience sampling technique were used to select the sample and a
structured questionnaire consists of two sections were used to assess the knowledge and
distribution of socio-demographic variables. The study result revealed that 48% of the
population having a poor knowledge level regarding communication barriers, with only 32%
in the good-knowledge and 20% in the average category. The study shows that there is an
urgent need to improve communication-barrier education in the nursing curriculum. By filling
in these gaps in nursing programs can better prepare students to work well with patients and
other professionals, which will ultimately improve the quality and safety of healthcare.
