Foundations of Paediatric Nursing Developmental and Family-Centered Care

Title: Foundations of Paediatric Nursing Developmental and Family-Centered Care
Authors: Santhosh, Daras Esqulin; Saha, Anushree; Sen, SwagathaLakshmi
Abstract: Family-centered care (FCC) in paediatric nursing focuses on the
important role families play in their child's health and well-being. This
approach treats families as active partners in care, making sure their
values, beliefs, and strengths are included in treatment plans. Involving
families in their child's care leads to better health outcomes, so it's
essential for paediatric nurses to support and involve families throughout
the care process. Focus on the child through the family centered care is
the magic that creates major change in health and well-being. A key part
of FCC is the nurse's presence, which helps build strong, trusting
relationships through good communication. These connections improve
the physical, emotional, and social well-being of both the child and their
family by creating a supportive and understanding environment. Adding
more care through the process of FCC is the key for early discharge. Although research shows a link between FCC and positive nursing relationships, more studies are needed to provide stronger evidence and
improve family nursing care. Healthcare teams are also working together
more than ever, recognizing that collaboration among professionals leads
to better care for children. This teamwork has led to better health
outcomes and strengthened the role of paediatric nurses as advocates for
children's health. Skilled nurse will influence the family to be the part of
care and planned treatment. FCC not only improves medical results but
also builds a stronger partnership between healthcare providers and
families. Family involvement is seen as essential for meeting a child’s
needs and supporting the family as a whole. Providing family-centered
care means recognizing that families are a constant part of a child’s life, relationships shape children’s well-being, and involving families in care
leads to better outcomes for the child. FCC is the vital psychological
support for the child.

Title: A Study to Access the Anxiety Levels of the Patients Undergoing Magnetic Resonance Imaging at Selected Hospitals Bengaluru with a View to Develop an Information Booklet
Authors: Murali, Megha; Keerthi Sudha, Perumalla; Nanjappan, Devi
Abstract: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a widely used diagnostic procedure
that, while safe and effective, often induces anxiety in patients due to its
enclosed environment, loud noises, and unfamiliarity. This study was
undertaken to assess the anxiety levels of patients undergoing MRI at
selected hospitals in Bengaluru, with the aim of developing an information
booklet to support anxiety reduction. A descriptive non-experimental design
was adopted, and 50 patients were selected through convenience sampling.
Data were collected using a structured interview schedule and an anxiety
rating scale. Results revealed that the majority of patients (58%) experienced
moderate anxiety, followed by 30% with mild anxiety, and 12% with severe
anxiety. The overall mean anxiety score was 31.46 (41.94%), indicating a
moderate level of anxiety among participants. Statistical analysis showed
that previous experience with MRI and the source of information about the
procedure were significantly associated with anxiety levels, while
demographic factors such as age, gender, education, and occupation had no

significant association. The findings emphasize the importance of pre-
procedure education, reassurance, and coping strategies to help patients

manage anxiety. Based on the results, an information booklet was developed
to enhance patient preparedness and cooperation during MRI procedures.
The study concludes that structured education and supportive nursing
interventions play a crucial role in alleviating MRI-related anxiety, ultimately
improving diagnostic outcomes and patient well-being.

Title: A Research Study Focusing on Electronic Device Utilization in Addition to Its Impact on Health and Wellness in Order to Produce a Learning Brochure to the Schools Kids in Chosen School at Bengaluru
Authors: Vijaymalar; Nanjappan, Devi; Rai, Deepti
Abstract: Introduction. A research study was conducted to evaluate the utilization of
electronic devices and their impact on the health and wellness of
schoolchildren, with the objective of developing an educational brochure for
students. Methodology. The study was carried out at a selected school in
Bengaluru using a descriptive research design. A total of 60 students from
grades 8 and 9 were selected through a convenient sampling technique. Data
was collected using a self-structured questionnaire focusing on patterns of
electronic device usage and related health effects. Results. The results
indicated that the majority of students (95%) had a moderate level of
knowledge, while only 3.3% showed adequate knowledge and 1.7% had poor
awareness. The mean knowledge score was 56.66%, and statistical analysis
revealed a significant association between students' knowledge and
demographic variables (p<0.05). Conclusion. The study concludes that
awareness among schoolchildren is limited, and recommends the
implementation of structured educational programs and the distribution of
informative brochures in schools.

A Descriptive Study to Access the Level of Knowledge Regarding Migraine among Undergraduate Nursing Students at Selected Colleges of Bengaluru

Title: A Descriptive Study to Access the Level of Knowledge Regarding Migraine among Undergraduate Nursing Students at Selected Colleges of Bengaluru
Authors: Jerome, Sunny; Malagi, Vasantha; T. Lagi, Lanvin; Roy, Joshua; Bhattarai, Krithika
Abstract: Migraine is a common neurological disorder that affects a large proportion
of the adult population worldwide and hassignificant implicationsfor quality
of life and academic performance, especially among students in healthcare
professions. The present descriptive study was conducted to assess the level
of knowledge regarding migraine among undergraduate nursing students at
Smt. Nagarathnamma College of Nursing, Bengaluru. A quantitative research
approach with a descriptive research design was adopted. A total of 90
undergraduate nursing students were selected using a purposive sampling
technique. Data was collected using a self-structured questionnaire to assess
baseline variables and knowledge regarding migraine. Descriptive and
inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The results revealed that
5.6% of students had poor knowledge, 62.2% had average knowledge, and
32.2% had excellent knowledge regarding migraine. A significant association
was found between knowledge levels and selected variables such as gender,
mother’s education, and participation in migraine-related classes, whereas
no significant association was observed with other variables including area
of residence, type of family, father’s education, presence of healthcare
workers in the family, family history of migraine, diagnostic history of
migraine, exposure to information sources, and experience caring for
migraine patients. The findings indicate that while most students have
moderate knowledge, targeted educational programs could enhance
understanding of migraine and its management among nursing students.
