| dc.description.abstract | Ilkal, a historic town in Karnataka, is known for its handwoven sarees that carry centuries of cultural identity and craftsmanship. Yet the craft is fading as artisans face poor income, limited recognition, and migration of younger generations. “Threads of Revival — Reimagining the Ilkal Weaving Ecosystem Through a Weavers’ Hub” envisions an Integrated Handloom Weavers’ Hub—a living space that preserves this tradition while empowering its artisans. The center weaves together workshops, training halls, galleries, and community courtyards into a functional and inclusive cluster inspired by the Ilkal saree’s bold borders and earthy tones. Designed to be accessible for all, the hub promotes dignity, livelihood, and cultural continuity through sustainable, context-responsive architecture. The project also aims to bridge the growing gap between traditional artisans and modern markets, giving weavers better visibility and opportunities. By integrating design innovation and cultural storytelling, the hub acts as a link between heritage and contemporary needs. It creates a platform where learning, production, and community interaction coexist seamlessly, making the craft more resilient for future generations. It stands as a model for how design can keep heritage alive by allowing it to evolve and thrive. | en_US |
