| dc.description.abstract | The Newari Culture Center is envisioned as a multidisciplinary cultural complex in Kathmandu dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and celebration of the rich yet rapidly diminishing heritage of the Newar community. Positioned at the intersection of tradition and modernity, the project aspires to serve as a dynamic platform for cultural education, expression, and revitalization. The complex integrates multiple functions, i.e. a living museum and exhibition gallery, a performing arts center, a community forum, a literature library, a language and script institution, specialty restaurant, and spaces for traditional workshops and gatherings. Designed around the principles of placemaking, cultural continuity, and urban integration, the project reinterprets traditional Newar architecture with sustainable, context-responsive design strategies. Rooted in the urgent need to address the fading use of Nepal Bhasa (Newari language), the loss of Ranjana script literacy, the decline in traditional crafts, and weakening communal practices, the project responds to statistical and sociocultural evidence of Newar heritage erosion. It aims to rekindle identity through spatial storytelling and educational engagement. The Newari Culture Center thus becomes not just a built environment but a cultural catalyst: a space where the past is honored, the present is engaged, and the future of Newar identity is actively shaped. | en_US |
