| Abstract: | Solid waste management has always been part of human existence. The ruins of settlements active prior to 8000 BC indicate that attention was given to wastes by decisions to dump them away from living areas, presumably to avoid bad odors, the breeding of vermin, and the attraction of wild animals. Ancient city states several thousand years BC showed that the collection and transportation of wastes for disposal in earthen cavities had become common and, by the fifteenth century, street cleaning and formalized collection and removal of solid waste and animal remains were widespread |
