Abstract

Rivers are the genesis of civilizations. Over time, they become a cultural and spiritual symbol of civilization. The seasonal variations in the water flow dictate the way of life of people within the settlement. Patterns, rituals, customs and occupations are established with respect to these cyclic changes. The design aims to evolve a paradigm that responds to these changes, with respect to the temporarility of the river and its fluidic landscape that periodically baptises its banks. How does an Architecture of Permanent healing manifest within a temporary context? How does design adapt to time and space when both the parameters are constant variables? A Design Paradigm for Invisible injuries An architecture of permanent healing,? In most lives, the residue of trauma ruins the individual’s capabilities of living in the present and sometimes becomes a cause for contagious melancholy in their environment causing them to self isolate themselves. One has to confront the after-effects of trauma and get through the emotional and physical turmoil under professional supervision, rather than evading or dodging them. Only then can one lead a life without paranoia and social anxiety. within a temporary context. ? The temporality of the site context referred to here is with respect to the possible occasional monsoon floods that submerge the site. The amount of time involved in the process of healing is anticipatable. The dynamic and potentially volatile context poses as a symbolic metaphor, that reflects the ever-evolving environment around the individual, that may not pause for one to heal. The site within the Vembanad lake system, is essentially isolated from the mainland and bestowed upon with abundant tranquillity, and yet is a point from where one gets a good view of the city life.
