dc.description.abstract | AIM. Redevelopment of the city market of Mysore, to act as a model for redevelopment of heritage buildings in the central region of the city. GOAL. The Devaraja market is the oldest markets in the city of Mysore, built in the year 1886. through it was a regular daily market in the early days, due to its proximity to the place, it was renovated in 1925 as a royal market under the rule of Doda Devaraja Woodyear, and the market was renamed after him. The market is now a century old, and it shows. It is in a state of disrepair and has become overly crowded. The government has now decided to demolish the structure completely and rebuilt it from scratch. The whole objective of thesis is to renovate Devaraja market by introducing more function and modern systems, while retaining the essence and heritage of the existing market, in an attempt to create a new model for redevelopment of such heritage structure. OBJECTIVE. The Devaraja market is the center of the commercial establishments near the market sell mostly perishable goods while further from the market we find all kinds of items from electronics to clothing .The Devaraja Mohalla is split into two half’s by Sayyaji Rao road, this makes it very hard for pedestrians to cross from one side of the commercial space to the another side. Lack of proper maintained over the years unauthorized structural modifications 10 by the shopkeepers, haphazardly introduced lighting, water supply and drainage systems have seriously impacted the structural stability of the building these problems have come to the limelight as parts of the building have started collapsing. Hence the MCC wants to demolish and rebuild the market in the interest of public safety. Knowing that current state of the building is a threat designing the market with concern about safety dude to present condition of the market and the preservation of the history and identity of the heritage building. | en_US |
