Abstract: Menstruation, also known as period or monthly is the regular discharge of blood and mucosal tissue from the inner lining of the uterus through the vagina. The first period usually begins between 12 to15 years of age called as menarche. The typical length of time between the first day of one period and the first day of the next is 21 to 45 days in young women, and 21-31 days in adult (an average of 28 days). Blecding usually lasts around 2 to 7 days. Menstruation is still regarded as somcthing unclean or dirty in Indian socicly and it is strongly related with misconceptions and cultural restrictions leading to isolation of he menstruating girls and restrictions imposcd on them in the family. These practiccs have reinforced negative attitude towards menstruation in girls.
