dc.description.abstractWireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have been considered as a key technology for next-generation wireless networking. WMNs are undergoing rapid progress and inspiring numerous applications, because of the simplicity and extensibility when compared to other wireless networks. However, many technical issues still exist in the field of wireless networks. In order to provide a better understanding of the research challenges of WMNs, this article presents a detailed study of current state-of-the-art MAC protocols and algorithms for scalable WMNs. Open research issues related to scalability are also discussed.en_US
