Joshimath Utopia

Abstract

This thesis examines the significant challenges confronting the inhabitants of Joshimath, a region heavily affected by landslides, through an architectural initiative that combines resilient housing with market spaces. The project investigates adaptive strategies specifically designed for the area's vulnerable ecology, prioritizing sustainable design and disaster prevention measures. The proposal emphasizes elevated constructions, lightweight materials, and adaptable designs to ensure stability in areas susceptible to landslides. It integrates community-focused spaces, merging housing with markets to promote economic activity and enhance social connectedness. This vision for "Joshimath's Utopia" aims to improve safety, bolster livelihoods, and maintain the cultural essence of the community.
